My love for improv comes from my love for theatre. I find theatre a place of magic, transcendent, aesthetic, a keeper of sorts: a keeper of lies, desires and all things in-between; all things traveling in and through our minds on any given day. It is, at least in my mind, the great equalizer…the place where we all have to face the fact that we are human – more the same than different, sharing loss and laughter in very much the same way.
As this year is speeding to an end, don’t forget to leave a little space for the magic to enter: book a show, watch a captivating tale, read a good novel, do a drop-in improv class, however theatre can enter your life, let it.
Now this is for the you that gets into the car, goes home or to the gym, falls onto the couch or has a meal with your family – the HOME YOU…the you who dares to dream and think and love and draw and do – without analysis or pause.
As for the you that walks the hard-wired carpets of corporate…the WORK YOU, who analyses, plans, looks smart and/or busy, overthinks, stresses, has meetings to prepare for meetings…YES YOU! How about, this year at the year-end celebration, you let your hair down with all the other hard-wired carpet-walking corporates and book a little act called ‘The Wedding Dancer”.
This woman is human AND she is dancer. She will show you all the moves to rock up at the next wedding with confidence and a conviction that will live in your body hence forth. She will make you dance into 2026 with a joy that moves you to places you have forgotten and places you have never been. She will never force you to dance with her, only to observe and enjoy; but should you find your body protesting against the utter exclusion, you will be welcomed with open arms to go where the beat takes you. She is not territorial that way…
At the very least, you will exit 2025 with a rhythm in your body that resonates into your soul and reminds you: YOU ARE HUMAN; AND YOU CAN ALSO BE DANCER.
